What is a Teller Cash Recycler (TCR) in banking?

A Teller Cash Recycler (TCR) is an automated cash management device that accepts, authenticates, counts, and stores or dispenses cash at the teller line — automating the manual cash handling that has traditionally defined branch transactions.

In a standard teller transaction, the teller manually counts cash, verifies it, and either adds it to or removes it from a drawer. TCRs automate that entire process. When a customer makes a cash deposit, the TCR counts and authenticates the bills, stores them inside the machine, and updates the transaction record automatically. For cash withdrawals, the TCR dispenses the correct amount without the teller ever touching the bills — removing a significant source of human error and dramatically reducing transaction time.

Beyond individual transaction speed, TCRs transform end-of-day reconciliation. Because the machine maintains a running total of all cash in and out, balancing at close is automated and nearly instantaneous compared to the manual process it replaces. CSG provides full lifecycle TCR services including installation, brand conversion, ongoing RemoteView Managed Services monitoring, and support for most major TCR manufacturers.
